The Silent Killer

The results you want come from daily practice.  I say this over and over again. It’s the small, yet daily decisions that effect us in a huge way. The more you eat well, the better you feel. Guaranteed. It is a cycle because eating well on a consistent basis produces compounding positive effects. Food is the foundation and your first level to feeling your best. Food is not just calories and energy. It’s information. Important data that tells our bodies how to function, which genes to turn on and which genes to turn off.

So how do you want to feel? How will you show up for yourself? Lets use foods as the gateway to feel your best.

Healthy food = Healthy cells = Healthy thoughts = Healthy YOU.  Conversely, crap goes in, crap comes out.  You get the idea.

INFLAMMATION:

So much talk on it lately. “It’s the silent killer,” experts say. “So what’s the deal,” you say. Here’s the low down:

WHAT IS IT: Occurs when the pH balance (yes, like a swimming pool) in our body is more acidic than alkaline. The root cause of the majority of our dis-eases— Cancer, Arthritis, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Auto-Immune disorders—occur and thrive in an acidic environment.  Allergies, mood disorders, skin problems, kidney stones, depression, fatigue, digestion issues are also linked to inflammation in the body.

WHAT TO DO: Everything we are at NOURISHED. Eat a whole foods diet high in fresh vegetables, load up on greens, fruits, legumes, quinoa, brown rice, oats, healthy fats and clean proteins. These foods alkalize the body.

CUT BACK ON: Dairy, sugar, refined carbohydrates, meats, soda (are you still drinking that anyway?), coffee. These are all acid building and major energy drainers.

I know what you are thinking … “What no meat, no milk, where am I going to get my protein, my calcium?”  We all have been brainwashed by the big cattle and dairy industries. It has been imprinted in our minds that without an animal source on our plate, we have no protein. Without milk our bones will be brittle. I mean just read this recent article in the NY Times.

Instead of adding meat to your plate yet again, go green. Leafy greens are loaded in calcium and even have protein.  Notice I begin this section with CUT BACK. I am not saying eliminate this food from your diet. Crowd it out by adding more healthy in. Start small, think big. Try adding in a daily green smoothie. https://www.nourished.ca/recipes/

PH SCALE:

Use this pH Scale to know how acidic your foods are. The more alkaline you eat the less acidic your body is and the less likely inflammation occurs. The higher the pH (greater than 7) the more alkaline, and the lower the pH the more acidic. Are bodies are healthiest in the low 7 ZONE.

0 – 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6 – 7 – 8 – 9 – 10 – 11 – 12 – 13 – 14

acidic <————-neutral————-> alkaline
